Sources from India report that Bhai Ranjit Singh Khalsa Dhadrianwale, one of the Sikh community’s most recognised educators, was fired upon by approximately 40 men earlier today.
Dhadrianwale was in a car among a fleet of vehicles, travelling with a group to speak at a religious event in the village of Isewal in Ludhiana, Punjab, when a number of cars began to chase down the car he was in. Reports suggest several injuries and at least one death.
Dhadrianwale is said to have escaped and is now safe, although his whereabouts are as of yet unknown.
Another renowned Sikh educator, Baba Bhupinder Singh Ji of the Parmeshar Dwar Gurmat Parchar Sewa Mission, has died during the attack. Wearing a similar Dastar (turban) style to Bhai Ranjit Singh Khalsa Dhadrianwale, it is believed Bhupinder was mistaken for him as he was in a car among the fleet of vehicles which was attacked.
Dhadrianwale is known to have been very vocal on many Sikh issues, including criticism towards the Indian government. Dhadrianwale was notably one of the prominent Sikh leaders arrested during the Sarbat Khalsa last year.
As of yet all assumed motives given as the reasons behind the attack remain pure speculation.
Sikh PA will continue to share information as it comes in.
